B i o g r a p h y

Kimun Kim, a native of Seoul, South Korea, is a stage director based in New York City.


He directed the United States debut of Das Lied von der Erde, as a theatrical presentation; Our Cool Leader, a theater project focusing on the plight in North Korea at UT Austin; Dichterliebe, Frauenliebe und- leben and Die Fledermaus, Trouble in Tahiti, Hansel and Gretel in NYC area and many additional scenes in various places.
 

He worked as directing staff with the Korean National Opera, Japan Fujiwara Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Seoul Opera, Martina Arroyo Prelude to Performance, Chicago Summer Opera, New York Dramatic Voices, UVAA and Wolf Trap Opera.  Productions included, Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto, Turandot, Carmen, La Traviata, Cavalleria Rusticana, L’elisir D’amore, Gianni Schicchi, Le nozze di Figaro, Tosca, La Bohème, Suor Angelica, Ariadne auf Naxos, Woman in Morocco, The Crucible, and others. 

 

Past associations also include, Seoul Arts Center Opera House, The National Theatre of Korea, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Korea, West Side Theater in Jersey City, La Mama ETC in New York, Butler Opera Center in Austin, The Barns and Filene Center in Virginia.
 

He received his Master’s in Opera Directing at The University of Texas at Austin and trained in the Suzuki Acting Method and Viewpoints at SITI Company. He currently serves as artistic director at New York Performing Arts Theatre and Korea Vocal Arts, general manager at New York Dramatic Voices, and opera workshop director at New Jersey City University.
